The Towns
The town of Hluboká nad Vltavou (7.90 km)
For history lovers, hopeless romantics and sports lovers, the town of Hluboká is an ideal trip. The small town of Hluboká nad Vltavou, is not just a sleepy nest where the only activity you can take part in is a one hour castle visit (with a guide = exploration visit).
The town of Týn nad Vltavou (10.70 km)
The Týn nad Vltavou town is one of the oldest settlement in South Bohemia. This town spreads on both banks of the Vltava river, near the place where the Vltava connects to the river Lužnice. The beginnings of the town Týn nad Vltavou are dated back to the first half of the 11th century, when this area was the property of the Prague bishopric.
The Týn nad Vltavou town is a significant center of cultural life and events. In the center, it is possible to visit the Town museum (the exposition of this region, historical puppets and moldavits) and a prestigious town gallery called “U Zlatého slunce” (formerly called, ART CLUB), where notable Czech visual artists hold exhibitions.
Every year, classical music concerts are held in the st. Jacob`s cathedral and have become a tradition there. In this town, you can also find one real rarity - a rotating auditorium which is the only of its kind in the Central Europe. The theatre company called Vltavan, holds a yearly series of performances here, which are visited by thousands of theater-goers during the summer season.
The town of České Budějovice (17.20 km)
The city of České Budějovice is a South Bohemian metropolis. The city is surrounded by a large number of ponds and lakes, the majority of which are culture ponds/lakes, used for recreation. Westward from the city České Budějovice, a protected landscape area called the “Blanský les” and in the east a protected area called the “Třeboňské rybníky” are to be found. The city is crossed by the Vltava river which is jointed by the river Malše in the center of the city.
The village of Albrechtice nad Vltavou (17.50 km)
In the village of Albrechtice nad Vltavou, one of the most significant southbohemian roman sights is found– the graveyard church of St. Peter and Paul. The church was built around the year 1190, probably as a project of building works of the town of Milevsko, and its modern image is a result of baroque reconstructions done during the 18th century. On the walls of the church, some monumental roman wall paintings from the time of the church’s foundation have been preserved. The paintings are the oldest ones in South Bohemia.
An uncommon curiosity of this place is the graveyard wall with 108 small chapels decorated with the paintings of folklore painters, attended with poems of a folk artist. Each of these paintings and texts tells some significant events of the corpse’s life and their origin is dated back to the first half of the 19th century.
The town of Bechyně (26.70 km) (26.70 km)
The town of Bechyně is a spa town, which is situated in the picturesque countryside over the Lužnice river. This town is famous for its railway created by "The Czech Edison" František Křižík in 1903, which connects Bechyně with another significant southbohemian town Tábor, and which was the first electrified railway in the Central Europe. The local spa is famous for curing rheumatism and problems with locomotive organs. The curative wraps are made of mold (soil) gained from the near-by area of marshland called Soběslavská blata. The local ferroconcrete bridge “The Bechyně rainbow“ spanned over the deep valley of the Lužnice river, offers its visitors a picturesque view of the town. This bridge was built during the years 1926 and 1928.
The town of Český Krumlov (45.10 km)
The town of Český Krumlov is a beautiful historical town sought-after by a high number of tourists and is referred to as a pearl among the towns. The Vltava river runs through this town which is surrounded by large forests. The town of Český Krumlov is situated in a picturesque valley bellow the hill tops of The Šumava foothills. To the north of the town, a protected landscape area of “The Blanský forrest“ is to be found.
The Castles & Chateaus
The ruin of Karlův hrádek (1.80 km)
The expressive ruins of the castle Hrádek, also called Karlshaus, stand on a wooden promontory above the left bank of the Vltava river. The castle of an irregular shape, approximately a triangle plot (groundplan), was surrounded on all sides by an unusually huge moat and wall. The entrance to the castle was guarded by a gateway in the passage of the castle’s north wing where you can still find some stone chairs. From its larger part, the castle’s chapel has been preserved. The ruin is a typical type of tower-free Premyslid-style castle with peripheral buildings.
The castle’s ruins are open to the public.

The Chateau of Hluboká nad Vltavou (7.90 km)
The chateau Hluboká is situated in a beautiful area not more than 8 km from the village of Purkarec. At the chateau you can go through three sightseeing tours.

The chateau Hluboká nad Vltavou is one of the most visited chateaus in the Czech republic.
The Ohrada Hunting Lodge (9.80 km)
The Ohrada is a baroque hunting lodge situated beside the Munický Pond, approximately two kilometers from Hluboká towards České Budějovice. This mansion is the oldest museum of forestry, hunting and fishery in the world being completed in 1842. The existing expositions feature transport, wood extraction, forest cultivation and forestry instruction in the forestry section, feathered and furry animals, their hunting and breeding, stuffed animals, unique collections of trophies and hunting arms in the hunting sections, and, in the fishing section, the history of pond and river pisciculture. It is also important to mention the artistic value of interior decorations – for example the ceiling frescos in “The Great hall” painted by Jiří Werle in 1715, inspired by the legend of Diana, the goddess of hunting.

The castle and chateau of Český Krumlov (45.10 km)
The castle and chateau of Český Krumlov stands on a rocky promontory above the Vltava river and is one of the most significant and largest (most extensive) areas (precincts) in the Europe. The castle consists of 40 buildings and palace structures, 5 courtyards and an extensive castle’s garden. In 1992, this historical complex was registered into the list of world cultural and natural heritage UNESCO.
The visitors of the area of Český Krumlov castle can go trough 7 different sightseeing tours.
The Museums, the ZOO
The village of Pořežany (5.90 km)
In Pořežany you can visit a local museum of historical vehicles and old agricultural engineering. Another interesting sight is a rustic house-place in Pořežany near the town of Týn nad Vltavou.

The ZOO Ohrada, Hluboká n. Vlt. (9.50 km)
The Hluboka nad Vltavou zoo lies near a town called Hluboka nad Vltavou, next to a Hunting lodge. Thanks to its position on a flat piece of land next to a large lake, you can enjoy leisurely countryside walks. This ZOO is smaller in size, but really worth seeing, mainly specializing in the fauna of The Czech republic.
